Coming as a great shock to his family and a wide circle of friends was the sudden death of Mr. Joe H. Moore, a member of a pioneer Holmes County family which occurred in Lexington, Friday afternoon, May 12.
While he had not been in the best of health for the past two years the heart attack which claimed him as he came from his pasture during the afternoon was sudden and came as a profound shock to his loved ones.
"Mr. Joe," as he was affectionately known throughout the county where he was born and reared was 68 years old on February 15. He was born in Holmes County in 1882 and was the son of the late Joseph Moore and Mrs. Mary Camella Hampton Moore, pioneer citizens of Mississippi. He lived in and around Lexington all his life where he had extensive planting and ginning interest.
He was active in Church affairs and was a member of the Board of Stewards of the Methodist Church. He was serving his first term as a member of the Holmes County Board of Supervisors.
Services were held Sunday afternoon at the family residence with the Rev. C. T. Floyd, Methodist pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Lexington Cemetery with Southern Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were his nephews, Harold, Curtis and Max Hammett, Junior Moore, Henry Douglas and Jim Wade Moss, and Capt. Marvin Stanley, Maxwell Field Ala.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Miles Moore, who he married in 1928, and a son Joe Miles Moore of Lexington, and one daughter, Mrs. Camella M. Zibilich, of New Orleans, by a former marriage to Mrs. Effie Lundy Moore.
Two sisters, Miss Dea Moore, Lexington, and Mrs. Kate Moss, Tchula, survive.
