John William O'Kelley, Jr., of Lexington was a retired mail carrier. Mr. O'Kelley was born April 19, 1924 in Benton County to J. W. O'Kelley, Sr. and Janie Elliott. He was a World War II veteran serving as a Radioman, Third Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. He was part of the armed guard crew aboard several Liberty ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He was also a letter carrier for the Lexington Post Office for 25 years until retirement in 1989. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, especially with his grandson. He enjoyed gardening, playing the guitar, and was a regular at the local coffee club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lexington where he attended the Nathan Aldridge Sunday School Class.

He was married to Rachel Rodgers O'Kelley of Lexington and had a son, John William O'Kelley, III of Atlanta, GA and daughters, Carol O'Kelley Chandler of Madison, Judy O'Kelley Davis of Kosciusko, and a brother, Jack R. O'Kelley of Bartlett, Tennessee.
