Obituary 

Oscar Toombs Wynne

Oscar Toombs Wynne, 73, died of heart failure Monday, January 21, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. His services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 23 at Southern Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating ministers were Rev. Mack Massey and Rev. David Upshaw. Burial services were in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.

Mr. Wynne was a native of Lexington. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge. He began a career as a farmer and cattleman. For twenty years, Mr. Wynne worked as a residential contractor. Other occupations included serving with the Mississippi Game and Fish Commission and retiring with the Farmers Home Administration as a building inspector.

Mr. Wynne was known by his wife and children to be a man of principle and character, and one who believed in treating his fellowman fairly. He was a man of love, understanding, and sincerity and often put others’ needs before his own. “We are not only losing a husband and a father, but a true friend. He will be missed but never forgotten.” his family said.

His survivors include his wife, Frances Byrd Wynne of Lexington; three sons, Oscar P. Wynne of Waverly, Tennessee, Don A. Wynne of Jackson and Danny K. Wynne of Greenwood; two daughters, Veva Wynne Gilfoy and Fran Wynne Cox, both of Lexington; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two half bothers, Willie Day Wynne of Pascagoula and John Richard Wynne of Kosciusko; two half-sisters, Ween Malone of Lexington and Juanita Ryan of Aberdeen.

Active pallbearers were Tandy Stepp, Leo Alderman, Mike Lammons, Dr. John G. Downer, Tracy Ware, Tommy Gantt and Ollie Jones.

Honorary pallbearers were Louie Beall Nichols, Lute Ellison, Joe Tingle, Dutch Farmer, Ed Thurmond, Billy Ellis, Fred Gossman, Charles Bobo, Buddy Powell and Hank Williams.
