Tish was born in Greenwood on January 19, 1927 to Georgia Quarles and Charles Miller Pitchford. She was descended from pioneer families of both Holmes and Carroll Counties. Other than a few years of her early childhood spent in Sidon, Mississippi, she was a lifelong resident of Greenwood. She attended Greenwood public schools, graduated from Greenwood High School in 1944, and attended Mississippi State College for Women. On August 4, 1945, Tish married Harris F. Tish was a lifelong Methodist. She attended Sidon Methodist Church in her early youth, and then attended the First Methodist Church of Greenwood, which she joined in 1941, and where she remained a member until her death. For many years she and Buck also attended Enon Methodist Church in Carroll County near Spring Lake, where they built a house in 1972 during the early development of the lake for recreational purposes. Tish loved this property and it was the site of numerous holiday celebrations and gatherings of family and friends.

Tish enjoyed traveling with her husband in her earlier years, and she and Buck traveled extensively in Europe and the Caribbean.

She was involved in horticulture and flower arranging for many years. She was a Master Judge of flower arrangement for the National Council of Garden Clubs, and judged arrangement competitions throughout northern Mississippi. She also was a member of the Greenwood Garden Club. Additionally, she was interested in conservation, and with her husband owned and developed Abiaca Wildlife, a farm and recreational property at Blackhawk, Mississippi, where they enjoyed nature and fishing together.

Tish was predeceased by her parents and by her beloved sister, Georgianne Pitchford Birdsong. In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Harris F. Powers, Jr., Charles M. Powers, and John H. Powers of Greenwood, and Robert E. Powers of Little Rock, Arkansas; granddaughters, Rivers K. Powers of Memphis Tennessee, Ann M. Haymans of Oxford, Mississippi, Patricia M.
