Mrs. Maude Mangum Rathell
Funeral services for Mrs. Maude Mangum Rathell, 96, of Lexington, were held Tuesday, February 12 at 3:00 p.m. in Southern Funeral Home chapel of Lexington. Her pastor, the Rev. Howard Allen was the officiating minister. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.
Mrs. Rathell died Sunday, February 10 at Lexington Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Rankin County, she had attended Mississippi State College for women as a music major. She moved to Lexington to replace Mr. Earnest Rathell at the First National Rank when he was called to World War I. When he returned from the war to go back to work, he met Miss Maude Mangum, and soon after they began dating and they were married in 1921. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lexington.
Survivors include two daughters, Beth R. McCullen of Jackson and Nancy R. McCain of Tuscaloosa, Alabama: seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Kim Kimbrough, Max Yates, Dane Austin, Paul Padgett, James Cunningham, Wayne Rhea, Wirt Hayes and Wick Eatherly.
Honorary Pallbearers were John Kimbrough, Jack Yates, Bud Moore, Dr. Charles W. Campbell, Gene Austin, and Dr. John G. Downer.
The family requests memorials to be made to French Camp Academy, Willard Bond Home, P.O. Box 720, Madison, MS or First Presbyterian Church of Lexington.
