As reported by Thad Henley, Jr., his father entered service in the U. S. Army in Jackson, Mississippi, on May 6, 1943. He served with the 1339th Engineer Construction Battalion in both the European and Pacific Theaters during WWII and separated as a Platoon First Sergeant at Camp Shelby, Mississippi on March 13, 1946.

Robert Sidney Henley

Funeral services for Robert Sidney Henley, 71, of Lexington, were held Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 3:00 p.m. from Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington. Rev. Mike O’Brien officiated with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.

Mr. Henley died Monday, Dec.12 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

A native of Holmes County, he was the owner and operator of Lexington Hardware Company in Lexington for forty years until April 1988 when he sold the business. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Anne Wilson of New Orleans, Louisiana; four sons, Mark Henley of Ocean Springs, James C. Henley of Sarasota, Florida, Robert S. Henley of New Orleans, Louisiana and Thad Henley of Slidell, Louisiana; a sister, Mrs. Nurry Nixon of Raleigh, N. C., and a brother, Ed Buck Henley of Lexington; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Len Ware, Robert Ware, Tracy Ware, Jack Farmer, Dr. Charles Campbell, and Roy Gelston.
