Obituary Samuel Jackson Foose, Jr.
Samuel Jackson Foose, Jr. died in Dallas, Texas, on October 9 of complications from an aortic aneurysm. Born January 26, 1916, he was a lifelong resident of Holmes County, and a retired cotton planter. He was an active member of the Tchula Methodist Church.

Mr. Foose attended the University of Mississippi in the mid 1930’s and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He lettered in both basketball and football at Ole Miss and played on the 1936 Orange Bowl team.

He served in the European Theater of Operations during World War II as a captain in the 69th Division, Field Artillery, and received the Bronze Star.

Mr. Foose is survived by his wife, Katherine Spradley Foose and their four children: Stephen and Billy of Dallas, Texas; Don of Mobile, Alabama; and Nancy Katherine Barrett of Lexington; his mother, Ida Cox Foose of Lexington; sister, Mrs. Ellis Harris of Tchula; and brother, Ken Foose of Jackson; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11 at Tchula Methodist Church. Officiating minister was Rev. Sonny Potts, assisted by Rev. John Evans. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington with Southern Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers were Oliver Harris, Ellis Harris, Hardy Harris, Ken Harris, Charles Spradley and Webb Spradley.

Honorary pallbearers were Gilliam Gwin, Byron Sharpe, John Edgar Hays, Bob Montgomery, Dale Pillow, Frank Gwin, Jr., Guy Duke, Bob Roseman, Tommy Peaster and Henry Waterer, Jr.
