Obituary

Mrs. Shirley Word
Mrs. Shirley Drennan Word, 50, wife of John E. Word, died Thursday at Holmes County Community Hospital where she had been a patient for a mouth.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 Friday, May 16 from Southern Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend E.S. Fur assisted by the Reverend Paul Sparks, officiating. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

A native of Holmes County, Mrs. Word was a daughter of John Drennan and Pauline Williams Drennan. She was a Staff Sergeant in World War II, a valued employee of the Holmes County Welfare Department and a member of the Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Walter (Ed) Word of Lexington and John R. Word of Goodman, two sisters, Mrs. Sue D. Barrett and Mrs. Gladys D. Meek, both of Lexington; one brother, Malcolm Drennan of Lexington, and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Edward Ellington, Jeffie Alford, Louis L. Lipsey, Leslie Farmer, Bob McLellan and Pat Barrett, Jr.
