Dr. Phillip Marvin Smith, 68 year old physician of Tchula, died suddenly at his home in Tchula, December 24, at 5:30 P.M.
Dr. Smith was born in Holmes County August 7, 1888. He moved to Tchula in 1926 where he has practiced medicine since that time. He was a member of the Tchula Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 26, from the Tchula Presbyterian Church at 10:30 A.M., with the Rev. Hayes Clark officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jasper Neel. Interment followed in Odd Follows Cemetery in Lexington.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Irene Smith, one son P. M. Smith, Jr., three grandchildren and one step-grandchild, two brothers H. G. Smith, Greenwood; R. L. Smith, Benton; three sisters, Mrs. H. S. Moorehead, Mrs Walter Rainer, Belzoni; Mrs. Edward Zeigler, Pickens.
Active pall bearers were, Ralph Ray, Gene Sheppard, John Edgar Hauys, Charlie Smith, Frank Clark, J. L. Shields, Guy Sharpe, and John Stewart Watson.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Levee Board and close friends.
