Obituary
Claude Edwin Sterling

Claude Edwin "Phil" Sterling, 70, of Greenwood died Tuesday, March 26 of cancer at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood

Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington. Rev. Lorance Frost officiated. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home of Greenwood was in charge of arrangements.

A native of Picayune, he was a graduate of Hattiesburg High School. He served in the Merchant Marines as a radio operator. He was in retail sales. He was a former manager of B. F. Goodrich Tire Co. and for many years sold life insurance.

Mr. Sterling recently served as bailiff for Judge Jon Barnwell. He was a member of Leflore County Country Club and an avid golfer. He was a member of North Greenwood Baptist Church and a member of Odd Fellows Lodge.

Mr. Sterling and his family made their home in Lexington for a number of years before moving to Greenwood.

Survivors include: wife, Janeice Shipp Sterling of Greenwood: daughters, Claudia Sayle of Germantown, Tenn., and Jennifer Brown of Durant; sons, Leonard "Bubba" Sterling of Cordova, Tenn., C. E. “Phil” Sterling. Jr. of Brandon, Wes Sterling of Greenwood and Marvin Sterling of Bartlett, Tenn.; brothers, Arnold Sterling and David Sterling, both of Mobile, Alabama; and 12 grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were W. R. "Ranny" Hanson, Fulton Young, Jr., Brad Cothran, Jerry Carver, Bobby Fisher, Jr., Lee Barnes, C. D. "Carol" Sturdivant.

Honorary pallbearers were Arthur Overbey, L. V. "Dutch" Ehret, Jon Barnwell, C. W. Jones, Jackie Adams, Dr. George Nassar and members of Greenwood Odd Fellows Lodge.
