Obituary

Captain T. J. Wyatt
Greenwood, August 11.—Captain T. J. Wyatt, who had been ill for only a few days, passed quietly away at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital here one night last week, and the funeral services were held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. McGehee, Dr. L. W. Rose, rector of the Episcopal church in this city, conducting the services. The remains were taken to Lexington, his old home, for interment, where he will be buried with Masonic honors.

Captain Wyatt was a native of Holmes County and was 72 years of age, and his father was one of the largest delta cotton growers. The deceased was educated in Lexington and at the Kentucky Military Academy where he was a school mate and intimate friend of Hon. John Sharp Williams. Capt. Wyatt was for eight years sheriff of Holmes County, resigning about a year ago on account of feeble health. In this office and in his private life he won with his magnetic personality the respect and high esteem of numbers of those with whom he had dealings.

Biographical Information

Capt. Tom Wyatt Married.

The many admirers of Capt. T. J. Wyatt of Holmes County, in Yazoo City, heartily congratulate him upon his happy marriage last week to Mrs. D. P. Porter, Jr., of Jackson. The marriage was quite a surprise to the friends of both parties, the ceremony being performed in the St. Charles Hotel, New Orleans, Capt. Wyatt was twice sheriff of Holmes County, and no County ever had a more efficient officer. He is one of the most successful planters of that County.
