Obituary

W.D. Truitt

Wordney Demaree Truitt, age 58, passed away Monday pm., July 10, 1972, in the Veteran's Hospital, Jackson, Miss. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Funeral Home in Lexington. The Rev. Shelby Hathorn Pastor of the First United Methodist Church, conducted the services.

Mr. Truitt was born April 5, 1914, son of the late Robert Fulton Truitt and Margaret Siddon Truitt. He was the grandson of the late Hilliard Truitt and Gertrude Sealy Truitt, and Samuel James Siddon and Margaret Dodd Siddon. He was the husband of Pearl Mae Bevill Truitt, whom he married November 29, 1938.

He was a beloved citizen of Holmes County, loved by all who knew him. He was a farmer, a building contractor, and a carpenter. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He served in the Marines during World War II, and received the Bronze Star Medal for services rendered while on Iwo Jima. One of his greatest ambitions was that all of his children receive an education and to be useful and law-abiding citizens.

Besides his wife he leaves the following children: Mrs. Robert L. Crowell (Marjorie) of Aurora, Colo., Mrs. Glenn C. Cartee, Jr.(Sybil) of Hattiesburg, Miss., Mrs. Arvel Seals, Jr. (Hortense), Capt. of U.S.A.F. of Hawaii, Mrs. David E. Rucker (Dorothy) of Houston, Texas, Seaman Roland Truitt of San Diego Calif., and Randy Truitt, Roger Truitt Cynthia Truitt, Dudley Truitt, Scarlett Truitt, and Eric Truitt, all of Lexington. He also leaves four grandchildren, Don Crowell, Kevin Cartee, Christian Cartee and Eddie Rucker; and one brother, R.C. Truitt of Greenville, Miss., one nephew and two nieces.

Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Lexington, with the Southern Funeral Directors in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were friends of the family Ollie Jones, Tandy Stepp, Leo Alderman, Paul Marshall, Mills Martin and Charlie Irby.
