Obituary
Dr. W. W. Durden

Dr. William Willis Durden passed away last Thursday, April 8, in Columbus, Mississippi.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 9, at the Catholic church in Columbus and the body was taken to Lexington where the last rites were said. Interment was in the Lexington cemetery. Dr. Durden was the son of the late John and Matilda Durden. He was ninety-two years old at the time of his death and was the last Confederate soldier of his regiment. He was born and reared in Lexington, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and completed a post-graduate course at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, now Columbia University, in New York City. He was one of the oldest graduates of this school.

Dr. Durden lived in Winona for a number of years.

The deceased is survived by two daughters, Miss Belle Durden, of Memphis, and Mrs. B. G. McGeary, of Winona; two sisters, Mrs. Sam Guinn and Mrs. James Dyer, both of Lexington; one brother, W. K. Durden, of Memphis; five grandchildren, Miss Marie McGeary, of Winona, Miss Judith McGeary of Memphis, Willis McGeary, of State College, Brian McGeary, of Greenville, and Miss Ruth McGeary, of Memphis.

Miss Nellie Kern, dean of M. S. C. W., is a niece of the late Dr. Durden.
