Obituary
Winstead Douglas Smith
Funeral services for Winstead Douglas Smith, 72, of Lexington were held Wednesday, February 18 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Dr. Michael OBrien, Rev. Howard Allen and Rev. Bobby Williamson were the officiating ministers. Interment was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.
Mr. Smith a native of Cruger, died Tuesday, February 17 at the Methodist Hospital of Middle Mississippi after a lengthy illness. He was a retired farmer and mail carrier, and a veteran of World War II.
Mr. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington where was an active deacon and teacher of the Brotherhood Sunday School class. He was a Mason and member of the Lexington Lodge.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Juanita Payne Smith of Lexington; one daughter, Mrs. Terry (Cindy) Kusnierz of Brookfield, Illinois; one brother, Fred Coleman Smith of Grenada; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Pennington of Marks and Mrs. Lucy Mangum of Helena, Arkansas; one grandson, Brian Douglas Kusnierz; and one granddaughter, Kelly Cynthia Kusnierz.
Pallbearers were Banks Pennington, Barry Pennington, Doug Mangum, Tracy Smith, Cole Smith, Donnie Pitts, Wallace Johnson, III and Barry Meek.
Honorary pallbearers were: deacons of First Baptist Church; members of Brotherhood Sunday School Class; former and present employees of Lexington Post Office; and his friends.
The family request memorials be made to Southern Baptist Foreign Missions.
