Walter Keirn Gwin was a Tchula native, moved to Lexington as a child, and then lived in Jackson 47 years. He graduated from Davidson College and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He was a retired insurance representative.

A charter member of Mount Salus Presbyterian Church, Mr. Gwin served as an elder for 40 years. Earlier, he had served as a deacon in Greenwood and as an elder in Monroe, La. He was active in church work and served on various committees in the churches he belonged to and in the general assemblies of the Presbyterian Church, U.S. and later the Presbyterian Church of America.
