Research Notes

The 1860 census lists W. L. Keirn with first wife Martha D. Keirn and children Mary (3), Walten [Walter] L. (1), and Anthony D. (0). The 1870 census lists Metis [Walter] L. Keirn with second wife Claude and 5 children Walter (11), Mary (13), Alex [Anthony] (10), Lucy (9), and Rose (1). A search of the 1880 census only found Walter L. listed in a boarding school (possibly a Military School). No further record of him could be found. There is a Walter Leake Keirn, III buried in Vicksburg, MS. The 1900 census list Walter and wife, Claudine with children Mary (44), Maude (23), Sam (21), Claude (19), Ethel (17) [12], Nellie (15). Interesting item found on the 1900 census for Walter. The number of years married for him has 47 then 32 to match the number of years married for Claudine. If the 47 number is used then it indicates he married Martha about 1853 and Claudine in 1868.
