Funeral services were held Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Methodist church for Private Walter L. Ware, son of Tommie W. and Mrs. Mabel Bailey ware of Lexington, who was killed in Belgium on January 8, 1945, while serving with a reconnaissance squadron of the 86th cavalry, U.S. Army Ground forces, as a radio operator. He was returned from Hamm Cemetery, Luxembourg.
A member of Oregon Memorial Methodist church, Private Ware attended Lexington high school and would have been graduated in 1944. He entered the service in November 1943, and went overseas the following October. He had lived all his life in Lexington.
The Reve. T.H. Dorsey, assisted by the Rev. C.L. Floyd and the Rev. Johnny Dinas, performed the last rites. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Private Ware leaves his parents, two brothers of the home, Robert and Eugene, and two sisters, Carolyn, also of the home, and Mrs. Welborn Eubanks of Lexington. Southern Undertaking association was in charge of arrangements.
