Obituary

Funeral services held Jan. 18 for
H. Vance Watkins

Hugh Vance Watkins. 64, of Lexington died of complications from surgery Friday, January 16 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 18 at First Baptist Church in Lexington. Rev. Mike O’Brien officiated. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington with Southern Funeral Home of Lexington in charge of arrangements.

He was a native of Holmes County and owner-operator of Vance‘s Auto Service In Lexington. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Watkin’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, cattle, and gardening. He was also active as a coach for the Little League and Pony League Baseball teams.

Survivors include: wife, Carolyn M. Watkins of Lexington; sons, Gregory Vance Watkins of West, and James Mitchell Watkins of Lexington; daughter, Sara Beth Gilliland of Itta Bena; parents, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Watkins of Black Hawk; brothers, James Watkins, Jr. of Haughton, Louisiana, Thomas H. Watkins of Bakersfield, California; sister, Sara Hall of Jackson; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sondra Kay.

Active pallbearers were Allan King, Virgil King, III, Lorance Frost, Greg Wiltshire, Bill Warrington, and Randy Watkins.

Honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday School class.
