Wayne Walley Truitt
Columbus - Wayne Walley Truitt, 79, of Columbus, MS, passed away November 23, 2015, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS. Funeral services will be Friday, November 27, 2015, at 12:00 PM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating and Dr. Bobby Douglas assisting.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. A graveside committal will be Friday, November 27, 2015, at 3:30 PM at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington, MS. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Truitt was born December 4, 1935, in Lexington, MS, to the late, Rob Roy and Ida Mae Kyzer Truitt. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard and was called to serve during the Berlin Crisis from 1961-1962 while stationed at Fort Rucker. Mr. Truitt was a graduate of Mississippi College in 1957 with a B.A. degree in Social Studies, and in 1962 received his M.Ed. degree from Mississippi College. Mr. Truitt also received his Ed.S. degree from Mississippi State University in 1972. He was a teacher in Moss Point, MS, and became administrative assistant for Federal Programs while in Picayune, MS. After moving to Columbus, MS, Mr. Truitt served as Director of State and Federal Programs for the Columbus Municipal School District for more than 20 years, retiring in 1990.

Mr. Truitt was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served in the church library, and actively participated in the Christmas Ministry for many years. He loved his Lord and church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved landscaping and yard work, wood work, leather work, and also working with stained glass. In addition to his parents, Mr. Truitt was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Lee Truitt and Charles Freeman Kealhofer; and sisters, Faye Truitt Massey, Mary Catherine Wilson, and Maxine Majure Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Sonia Gilliam Truitt of Columbus, MS, son, Hal Gilliam Truitt and his wife Kaye of Columbus, MS; sister, Martha Truitt Bailey of Winona, MS, and grandchildren, Anna Truitt Bush and her husband, Matt of Hattiesburg, MS, Mary Alice Weeks and her husband, Levi of Hattiesburg, MS, and Richard Wayne Truitt of Hattiesburg, MS.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Truitt, Matt Bush, Chuck Truitt, Ricky Bailey, Lee Bailey, Michael Burgess, Forrest Allgood, and Paul Brady.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Perrin Smith's Sunday school class of Frist Baptist Church, Glenn Lautzenhiser, Ray Hastings, W. R. Martin, Tommy Southerland, Gwendell Pearson, and Bobby Ables. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children's Village, P.O.
