Obituary
William Henry Fincher, III
William Henry Fincher, Jr.[III], 78, a retired merchant of Lexington, died of respiratory failure Tuesday, December 24 at St. Dominic/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 27 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom HoIlowell officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

A Holmes County native, Mr. Fincher was the second generation owner of Fincher Hardware in Lexington. He took over the business after his father retired in 1945 and was its owner until he retired in 1981.

Mr. Fincher attended school in Lexington before graduating from Castle Heights Military School in Lebanon, Tennessee. He also attended Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee and Millsaps College. He was a member of Lexington Masonic Lodge No. 24 for more than 50 years and also served as a member of its York Rite Bodies. Fincher was a Shriner and a member of the Lexington Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the town’s Rotary Club and the Mississippi-Louisiana Hardware Association. He was also a World War II Army veteran.

Mr. Fincher served on the board of trustees and historical committee of First United Methodist Church and was the church Sunday school superintendent for many years. As of November 28, 1991 W. H. and Mary had been married for 56 years.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary Griffith Fincher of Lexington; a son. Murray Fincher of Madison; one daughter, Marilyn Hathcock of Clinton; two sisters, Ruth Margaret Reid of Lexington and Mary Frances Slaughter of Jackson: and four grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Charles Ellison, Frank Hughes, Harold Hammett, Jr., Pat Barrett, Jr., Sam Lane and Kirk Povall.
