William Oltenberg Ginn

William Oltenberg Ginn of Lexington, 53, musician/composer, died Friday morning, October 8, 2004 at home.

A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 8 (Note: Sunday was the 10th) at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Lexington. Mark Seepe Funeral Home & Crematorium was in charge of arrangements.

"Bill” was an accomplished composer, arranger, performer and producer of many styles of music. He was salutatorian of the Lexington High School class of 1969 and graduated with high honors from the University of Texas at Austin. Among his many post graduate studies are the Arrangers Institute, Eastman School of Music and The University of South Carolina.

He was the keyboardist for the Austin based band "Passenger” from 1976-1984. During this same time period he also was the keyboardist for General Cohen's International Tours.

He was the Musical Director and Keyboardist for singer/songwriter Jennifer Warnes from 1980-1993. This endeavor led him to a Grammy nomination in 1986 for her CD “Famous Blue Raincoat.” Bill collaborated with many people on his musical projects. Some of them include Willie Nelson, Harry Belafonte, Carole King and conducting the London Symphony Orchestra. He is credited with collaborations on the musical scores of such movies as “The Man with Two Brains”, “My Girl”, and “American Tail 2”.

Locally, he was a member of the Holmes County Art Council, the Holmes County Preservation Singers and the Mississippi Arts Commission. He was also a communicant of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Lexington.

Bill was preceded in death by his father M.K. Ginn, Sr., of Lexington.

Survivors include: his mother, Hilda Ginn and others.
