W. Lonnie Jordan
Buried Here Monday

William Lonnie Jordan, 72, planter, capitalist and prominent Mason of Mississippi, died at his home here last Saturday night after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church of Lexington Monday morning at 10 o’clock with the Itev. T. H. Dorsey conducting the rites. Interment was made in Odd Fellows cemetery with Masonic honors.

Mr. Jordan was one of the most prominent citizens of Holmes County. He spent his lifetime mostly in the county where he was born. As a young man he spent several years as traveling salesman in Arkansas, returning to Mississippi where he was engaged in business with the late Josephus Moore as mer chant at Acona. He moved to Lexington 43 years ago and for a number of years was a merchant and engaged in furnishing and farm operations. In later years he engaged in farm operations and took a leading part in civic affairs of Lexington and Masonic undertakings of Mississippi.

He was treasurer of the Board of Stewards of the local Methodist church and a member of the Lexington Rotary Club. He was a Mason, Shriner and member of Scottish Rites Body. His activities in Masonic circles locally included Master of Lexington Lodge No. 24; High Priest of Lexington Royal Arch Chapter No. 9; Thrice Illustrious Master of Lexington Council No. 4; Commander of Lexington Commandery No. 3. In state circles he was Past Master of Grand Commandery K. T. Mississippi; Past Potentate Wahabi Temple, Jackson and at time of death was chairman of Murphy-Martin Educational Fund of the Grand Lodge of Mississippi, serving as a member since its founding of which the late R. E. Wil burn, Paul H. Murphy and Mr. Jordan were original trustees of the fund. He also served on various important committees of the Grand Chapter and Grand Commandery.

Mr. Jordan was interested in all farm improvement movements. He was a former county committeeman of the Triple A program in Holmes county; president of the Holmes County Farm Bureau and farm leader in other county and state organizations to improve the farmers’ status.

Mr. Jordan married the former Miss Mamie Moore who preceded him in death on Juno 30, 1937. Two children were born from this union who survive. They are: R. A. Jordan, former District Attorney and prominent member of the Greenwood Bur, and Mrs. Thomas G. Lebby of Chattanooga, Tenn. He is also survived by two half-sisters, Miss Minnie Jordan, Lexington and Mias Myrtie Jordan, New Orleans.

Grand Prelate, Shelby; Horace Villce, Deputy Grand Master, Clarksdale; T. T. Reid, Grand Sword Bearer, Cleveland; Morris Goldstein, Grand Tyler, Greenville: Dan Shipp, C. C. Swayze, Deputy Grand Lecturers, Benton; Ackirch Nam, Jackson; J. H. Johnson, Grand Commander, Clarksdale; Tom Monthur, Hattiesburg; F. H. Mc Caleb, Caledonia.
