Funeral services for Calvin A. Moore, 78, of Lexington were Thursday at First Baptist Church in Lexington. He died Sept. 23, 2004 at Lexington Manor Nursing Home.
Moore served as a Lexington alderman 1960-68 and was Holmes County's sheriff until 1980, when he was elected circuit clerk. He was in that office until 1992. Moore was a member and former president of the Lexington Lions Club, a Mason and a deacon for 30 years at First Baptist Church. Moore was also Sunday school and Training Union superintendent. He was active in both the Baptist Lay Renewal Program and the Methodist Lay Witness Program. He was instrumental in helping to establish the Sheriff Boys' and Girls' Ranch that is still active.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Doris Farish Moore; sons Calvin A. "Buddy" Moore Jr. of Lexington, Danny Joe Moore of Olive Branch; daughters Brenda White of Columbus, Pamela Downer of Ridgeland, Betty Killebrew of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were George Clifford, Andy Farish, Wayne Ray, Mitch Bethany, James Earl Farish and Jerry Farish. Honorary pallbearers were the Nathan Aldridge Sunday School Class, deacons of first Baptist Church and Reuben Netherland.
Revs. Mike O'Brian and Bobby Williamson officiated. Burial was at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington and Southern Funeral Home handled arrangements.
