Obituary
Norman Doty Porter

Services for Norman Doty Porter, 86, of Greenwood, who died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at Golden Age Nursing Home, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Lexington.

Mr. Porter was an accountant and office manager for Hammett Co. for 32 years. A native of Lexington, he was born Jan. 4, 1920, to the late Sally Doty and Alfred Allen Porter Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, and was awarded the Soldier's Medal during World War II for saving the life of his commanding officer. He was a 50-year member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the Greenwood Elks Lodge. He was a longtime faithful member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean McGraw Porter of Greenwood; two sons, Alfred "Al" Porter and his wife, Rhonda, of Louisville, and John Doty Porter and his wife, Gale, of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Doty Porter, and his wife, Mary Gregory, and Sloane Porter, all of Greenwood, and Sally Porter, Mary Claire Porter and Olivia Porter, all of Louisville.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 this evening at Southern Funeral Home in Lexington.
